THE GUGUSSE SCANNER

Originally designed by Denis-Carl - Robidoux, the Gugusse scanner is an open source DIY project to create a multi-format film scanner using a Raspberry Pi, Arduino, 3D printed Parts, and many loose electronic parts. I built mine over the course of about two months expressly to focus on scanning and restoring (to the best of my abilities) films which are not available in HD formats, or are inaccesible for the majority of the population.

Joshua Then and Now (1985) Trailer

My first 35mm scan with the Gugusse Film scanner was Joshua Then and Now (1985) directed by Ted Kotcheff. The film was scanned with the Gugusse and processed using DaVinci Resolve for editing, and AEO-Light to extract the soundtrack from the individual frames. This first scan is a bit on the shaky side, but I’ve since found a better way to stabilize the picture and will be doing so from now on.
